And it will continue to evolve with the evolution of our daily language and culture changes.

each generation is creating different terms and definitions to new words or strange slangs until it catches on with the entire community.

the kids this day in time are using words like 'fetch' and it's not playing with your furbaby to get the stick and vying it back to you. Indomt.fully understand how these even became popularized but we often see things like this transition within the church too.

Buckle up and get ready for the ride of our lives inthis ever growing world of changes. I love all the hymns but it's rare the churches sing a hymn in 2025. Stick to our roots and work with works best for us and our communities in our churches and keep sharing thr love of God.

Re: Five Confessions: Annoyed by Worship

In John Chapter 4, Jesus explains to the Samaritan woman that true worship is not tied to a specific geographical location like the mountain where Samaritans worshiped or the city of Jerusalem where Jews worshiped. Instead, he teaches that God is spirit and seeks true worshipers who will worship the Father in spirit and in truth. This means worship is an internal, authentic experience of the heart that is guided by God's Spirit and grounded in truth, not a physical location or ritual.

As for the definition of worship, it is the feeling or expression of reverence and adoration for a deity.

Therefore those that use the terms Worship Service are expressioning that it's the description where they join together in community with one another in expressions of emotions and feelings that they are experiencing in their relationship with their God (deity).

The description of gathering together and offering up praises, vocalizing their gifted talents in song or prayer doesn't have a weighted value to be one or another. The point is that you have both community opportunities to give God (your deity) your expressions of gratitude and love in return.

Re: Five Confessions: Annoyed by Worship

Amen!!!
All we need is Jesus and we can worship Him with or without music by creating it in our hearts, speech, song, dance, etc however we want to express our gratitude with Jesus alone or corporately.

Re: Five Confessions: Annoyed by Worship

You bring up a great point
Are there protocols of expressing a persons perspective publicly on a website that needs to be approved through a chain of command?

I've not given it much thought honestly. Many can't be in the congregation singing and many more can't be behind the instruments and microphones. As long as each person has honored their place in the worship service then our hearts will overflow with His joy.

I'm grateful for the singers and musicians because without them leading music, there would not be music in many churches.

That's why we all work well together because everyone can't be on the stage with no congregation and vice versa. There has to be a balance.

Re: Five Confessions: Annoyed by Worship

Yes, Ita all about Him and a joyful noise is all we are expected to give in community worship especially.

I think that I would have to know a specific song to understand the Jesus-is-my-boyfriend perspective. "Feeling your pain," which is what empathy is, is not the same as compassion. Christ promotes compassion, not mere empathy. Jesus conducted his ministry in the context of a Middle Eastern culture which understood His words in a way that is radically different from Enlightenment thinking.

“Believing” a propositional truth-claim is not the same as "believing in" a person who gives clear instructions on disciple-making: "teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you." The teaching He refers to is hands-on teaching, not classroom teaching. Being a “believer” is insufficient.

Being a follower who “believes in” – in other words a “follower” of Christ – is what is required. Church is dying because it has far too much talk and far too little meaningful action – and far too little character-building, which is what disciple-making actually is.

Re: Worship trainwreck from Martin Smith

Good call.

Re: Worship trainwreck from Martin Smith

Oh Ray. "Worship" at my church (about 110 people) is a pathetic cacophony of purely painful noise. Repeating the same choruses over and over and over again.....the anointing left the song 1 min after it began. We have a 10 pc worship team (drums, keyboard, cello, 3 guitars and singers) - everyone is off-key and so so loud.

I've learned to come into church when so-called worship is ending because it is so aggravatingly bad.

Sad, because the teachings of the pastor are great.

Re: People that frustrate worship leaders (part 1)

I really enjoyed this article and the comments from the readers. The article is humorous as being a worship leader for many year have experienced a sole tambourine player throw of an entire rhythm section. There are only two options in this instance to turn up the music volume and downed them out or ask them not to play. A lot of people hate the loud music. I lead at a church that put tambourines on the chairs for anyone to play… 😳. I used to hide them beforehand lol. I have also almost been taken out by a unintentional flying flag.
God sees our hearts when we worship. If your desire is showboating weather on the platform or in the congregation you’re missing out and wasting your time. Satan temps the congregation during worship and church to keep you focused on flesh rather
than Christ. So the annoying tambourine player messing up the band and the random flag mishap are going to be a thing in our imperfect church… Push through and use the aggravation to pursue Christ even harder, you will reap the rewards!

Re: Do you think that people going through a divorce should be allowed on a worship team?

What bothers me is that most people commenting on this are giving their opinion and not giving scriptural references. It doesn’t matter what we think, it matters what the Word of God says. Let’s say the worship leader is the one filing for divorce because of adultery by her husband. That is an emotional roller coaster and the marriage is in a shambles. Are there scriptures that give direction? Most churches would give the wife time off from leading worship to deal with the divorce and seek God for emotional healing, restoration, drawing closer to God in prayer, growing closer to God reading his word, seeking God to forgive her husband etc. Especially if there are children involved. The wife needs to focus on the needs of the children and her own mental and emotional needs during this difficult time. She may even seek counseling and need support from the ladies in the congregation and friends. It is an act of compassion to give that person who was hurt time off from leading worship. She can still worship from the pews while attending church. But we need to research the scriptures to see if there are biblical references or principles related to this. I haven’t had the time to look this up yet, when I wrote this response.

Re: How do you give kind but honest feedback to musicians who just aren’t up to the job?

I know this is an old post, but turning down the microphone is not only dishonest, it doesn’t correct the issue, and eventually the poor singer ends up finding out. They always find out. This creates more problems and leads to hurt feelings. And quite frankly, those who are gifted and skilled at singing don’t want to sing with those who are flat/sharp, have poor timing or have poor tone. I’ve seen this scenario over and over again, in almost every church I’ve been a part of. The only person who matters is the bad singer, because people don’t want to hurt their feelings, so the rest of the group suffers in silence. The church needs to stop allowing this to happen, and simply be honest with people.
An individual is either cut out to lead singing or they are not. The church needs to help their congregation understand how God has gifted each of them, and find their place in serving, rather than figuring out ways to deceive them, just so they can stand on stage with a microphone in their hand.

Re: Training Tracks for worship drummers

Hi Devan
Marie here from Musicademy.
These are split tracks with vocals, music and drums etc. The left/right balance will zero all the music except vocals and drums on the left and vocals on the right.
I don't have samples of the drum training tracks but if you go to www.worshipbackingband.com there are samples there of each of the tracks and the basic stem files are the same.

Re: Training Tracks for worship drummers

Do these tracks have lead vocals? For example, when I was learning bass, I didn't know much more than chord notes and a few passing notes. That worked just fine as we had no other bass player. As time went on, I learned more and more, all the while listening to the same recording. You are a very thoughtful person, but you might be over thinking this a bit?

Re: What are the biggest issues facing worship teams right now?

removed comment
